Assima alternatives: 8 simulation tools for SAP, Oracle and Workday training

Assima has sold systems training to banks and governments since 2002, and its cloning technology is still unusual: it captures the objects of the real interface, not pictures of it, so the simulation is editable and behaves like the application. The reasons to look elsewhere are the ones you would guess. No published price, no trial, Windows-only authoring, and a sales motion built for large enterprises. Here are eight alternatives that also produce practice simulations, with facts from each vendor's own pages.

Short answer

For the closest thing to a clone, Whatfix Mirror builds interactive replicas of web applications with assessments. For SAP-heavy estates, uPerform and WalkMe Learning Arc record desktop applications and ship simulations to an LMS. For a modern authoring platform that happens to do simulations, dominKnow | ONE. For leaving Oracle UPK, EpilogueIQ. For practice built from a recording in minutes, with a trial you start yourself, Recourse. None of them edits a captured screen the way Assima does; what you gain is price, trial, or breadth.

What Assima does, and the fine print

Assima Train captures a process by clicking through the target application and records its UI objects, which is why fields, menus and buttons can be added, resized, removed or mass-replaced across lessons without recapturing, and why lessons can be localised into any Windows-supported language without re-recording. Learners get See it, Try it and Do it modes on a fully interactive clone, plus HTML or PDF manuals and an in-app Task Assistant. It supports SAP S/4HANA and ECC (Fiori and classic GUI), Salesforce, Workday and Oracle Cloud, exports SCORM 1.2 and 2004 with LTI 1.1 and 1.3, and its e-learning links are blank SCORM packages that fetch the latest version from the platform, hosted on Azure. Authors need a Windows machine with a desktop launcher.

The company was Assima PLC in the UK until Partner One Capital bought its assets in February 2019 for about £8.25 million; the current entity is Assima Global, Inc. with CEO Brendan Scullion and staff in 20 countries. There is no price on the website and no trial; a UK G-Cloud reseller listing shows about £4,456 per licence per month. G2 shows no reviews, and older Capterra comments mention weak reporting and a quiz feature that did not survive a platform change. Scored assessment exists per listings, but Assima's pages do not describe how scoring works.

1. Whatfix Mirror

The nearest conceptual match: Mirror creates "interactive replicas of any application in minutes, no developer support required", for sandbox practice and scored assessments, with AI role-play added in March 2026. It covers web applications, exports SCORM 1.2 and 2004, and is sold with the Whatfix DAP on a flat fee plus per-user licences, demo only. Whatfix raised $125 million in September 2024.

Pick it when you want replica-based practice for web apps and in-app guidance from the same vendor.

2. Recourse

Click through a web workflow with the Recourse Chrome extension, which captures the screens, the clicks and the structure, or upload any recording of any application, SAP GUI included (a recorded UAT session, a Zoom share, an old MP4), and it builds a click-by-click simulation with Demo, Practice and Evaluate modes. A learner who stalls in Practice gets a hint, then a nudge, then the answer; Evaluate is a scored assessment with a pass mark that reports to the LMS. The simulation is wrapped in a structured course. Pro exports static SCORM and xAPI; Team is three seats with unlimited simulations and a live SCORM package that updates every LMS when you edit, the same idea as Assima's e-learning links. Solo is for courses shared by link, with no SCORM. It is free for 30 days with full access; Solo, Pro and Team are priced on request. It does not clone the interface: screens are captured, not reconstructed, so you cannot swap a field or mass-replace data the way Assima can. See Recourse vs Assima.

Pick it when you need practice content fast, in a browser, without a sales cycle, and your applications are web-based or you can record them.

3. uPerform (ANCILE)

Records Windows and web applications, with SAP (S/4HANA, Fiori, ECC, SuccessFactors), Oracle, Epic, Workday and ServiceNow named, and produces documents, simulations, test scripts and assessments as HTML, PowerPoint, PDF and Word, with AICC and SCORM 1.2 for the LMS and content surfaced inside the application. Claims half the Fortune 100 and large health systems. Elkridge, Maryland; demo-only; reviewers call it hard to learn.

Pick it when you are a large SAP or healthcare organisation that also needs documentation and test scripts.

4. WalkMe Learning Arc

WalkMe's learning product, and SAP's designated successor to Enable Now. It records web and desktop workflows including SAP GUI, produces Demo, Practice and Test simulations and AI-built courses, exports PDF, Word, PowerPoint, video and SCORM 1.2 or 2004, and has a 30-day trial. Updates require a manual re-export to the LMS. See Enable Now vs Learning Arc.

Pick it when you run SAP and want to be on the platform SAP is standardising on.

5. ClickLearn

Danish, Windows-based, with connectors for Dynamics 365, SAP GUI, Oracle, IFS and Salesforce that extract field names, producing Show Me, Try Me and Test Me videos plus Word, PDF, PowerPoint and an in-app assistant in 45 languages, with SCORM 1.2 and 2004. Replay re-drives recordings on the live system to refresh screenshots. Quote-based with a guided setup instead of a trial. See ClickLearn alternatives.

Pick it when documentation in many formats matters as much as simulation.

6. EpilogueIQ

Chrome or Edge extension plus a desktop recorder; Follow Me walkthroughs on Oracle, SAP, Workday, Salesforce and ServiceNow; watch, try and test simulations; SCORM and xAPI; 32 languages; per-user or enterprise-unlimited pricing with a $6,000 implementation fee. Its team built Oracle UPK and it offers a UPK converter, which makes it the natural landing place for a UPK library. See Oracle UPK alternatives.

Pick it when you are migrating from UPK or want in-app walkthroughs and training from one recording.

7. dominKnow | ONE

A browser-based authoring platform whose Capture tool takes a screenshot per step and produces Show me, Guide me, Try me, Practice and Test me, with multi-branching since Capture 2.0, exported as SCORM, xAPI, cmi5, AICC, HTML5, MP4, PDF or GIF. Convey hosts content and publishes a lightweight SCORM stub so LMS copies update when you republish. Quote-based per author.

Pick it when you want regular courses and software simulations from one platform with modern standards support.

8. Adobe Captivate

Records a procedure once and produces Demo, Training (guided, with a failure caption on a wrong click) and Assessment (scored per click, limited attempts). Self-contained SCORM 1.2 and 2004, AICC and xAPI, for US$39.99 a month. A desktop authoring tool, and edits mean republishing and re-uploading.

Pick it when you want classic scored simulations at a list price and already have authoring skills.

How to choose

  1. Clone or capture? Only Assima edits the captured interface. Whatfix Mirror replicates web apps. Everyone else works from screenshots or video, which is fine for most training and worse for data-sensitive screens you need to alter.
  2. Desktop or web? SAP GUI and desktop Dynamics need a desktop recorder (uPerform, Learning Arc, ClickLearn, EpilogueIQ, dominKnow, Captivate) or a video (Recourse). Mirror is web-only.
  3. How will the LMS stay current? Assima links, dominKnow Convey and Recourse live SCORM update in place; Captivate, Learning Arc and ClickLearn re-export.
  4. Can you start without a sales cycle? Learning Arc, Captivate and Recourse, yes; the rest, no.

What Recourse does not do

  • No overlay on the live application and no in-app guidance.
  • No branching yet: each simulation follows one right path. Branching is on the roadmap.
  • No LTI, cmi5 or AICC output.
  • No native LMS.
  • No threaded review comments.
  • Desktop applications only through an uploaded video.

For SAP GUI-heavy estates that need a desktop recorder, LTI, or edits to the captured interface itself, Assima or one of the desktop tools above is the better fit.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Assima cost?
Assima publishes no prices and offers no free trial; sales is by demo. A UK government G-Cloud listing by a reseller shows about £4,456 per licence per month, and support listings note professional support at 10 to 15% of annual contract value.
What makes Assima different from a screen-recording tool?
Assima captures the user-interface objects of the application rather than screenshots, producing an editable, fully interactive clone. Fields, buttons and data can be changed or localised across lessons without re-recording, and the learner practises on something that behaves like the real screen.
Does Assima export SCORM?
Yes, SCORM 1.2 and 2004, plus LTI 1.1 and 1.3. Its e-learning links are blank SCORM packages that connect back to the Assima platform, so the LMS always shows the latest version without a re-upload. A self-contained SCORM zip export is also offered.
Which Assima alternatives can be tried without a sales call?
WalkMe Learning Arc has a 30-day trial with no card, Adobe Captivate is $39.99 a month, and Recourse has a 30-day free plan. Whatfix Mirror, uPerform, ClickLearn and EpilogueIQ are demo-led, and dominKnow is quote-based.
