How it works

How to open a SCORM file without an LMS

Double-click index.html and you get a blank page. The course is looking for an LMS. This viewer is one.

  1. Step 1

    Grab the .zip

The one you'd upload to your LMS. Don't unzip it.

  2. Step 2

    Drop it in

Drag it onto the box above, or click Choose a file.

  3. Step 3

    Click through

It plays like it would in your LMS, and shows what it reports.

No file handy? Download a sample SCORM package.

Test before you upload

Test it before your LMS does.

See exactly what your course reports, live, as you click.

Does it launch?

Wrong launch file or an extra folder? Find out now, not after upload.

Does it complete?

Watch the status flip to complete. If it doesn't here, it won't in your LMS.

Does it score?

Take the quiz. See the score and pass/fail it sends.

Does it resume?

Check the bookmark and suspend data that bring learners back.

Multi-SCO

Jump between SCOs from the lesson picker.

Every API call

Each Initialize, GetValue, SetValue and Commit, with error codes.

Works with

Plays packages from any tool

If it exports SCORM, it plays here.

  • Articulate Storyline
  • Articulate Rise 360
  • Adobe Captivate
  • iSpring Suite
  • Lectora
  • Elucidat
  • Evolve
  • Adapt
  • dominKnow
  • Gomo
  • Recourse

Want to edit it?

You can't edit a SCORM file. You can remake it in minutes.

Source file long gone? Recourse rebuilds the course from a recording, a doc, or the old deck, then exports fresh SCORM.

Built in Rise 360? Import the zip and edit it directly.

SCORM viewer FAQ

What is a SCORM viewer?

A tool that plays a SCORM package the way an LMS would, so you can see and test a course without uploading it anywhere. This one is free and runs in your browser.

How do I open a SCORM file without an LMS?

Drop the .zip into the viewer above. Opening index.html directly usually shows a blank page, because the course is looking for an LMS. The viewer acts as one.

Is it really free?

Yes. No signup, no limits, no watermark.

Is my file uploaded?

No. It's unzipped and played inside your browser, and never sent to us or anyone else. Safe for confidential courses.

Does it support SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004?

Both, every edition. Sequencing rules aren't enforced, so you can open any SCO. xAPI packages with a tincan.xml also play, without tracking.

Why won't my SCORM package open?

Usually it isn't a .zip, it was exported for the web instead of an LMS, or it has no imsmanifest.xml. The viewer tells you which.

Can I edit a SCORM file?

Not really. SCORM is a published export, like a PDF. You edit the source project, or rebuild it in Recourse. Rise 360 exports import straight into Recourse as editable courses.

How is this different from SCORM Cloud?

SCORM Cloud needs an account and an upload. This is the quick check: drop the file, click through, done. Nothing leaves your computer.

Does progress save?

No. Every open or restart is a fresh attempt, which is what you want when testing.

How big a package can it open?

Anything your browser has memory for. A few hundred MB is fine on a normal laptop.
