Easygenerator alternatives: 7 tools compared on price, SCORM and simulations

Easygenerator is the tool you hand to subject-matter experts: browser-based, priced per author, and quick to turn a PowerPoint or PDF into a course. People look elsewhere when they need deeper customisation, software simulations, or a different price shape. Here are the alternatives, with what each costs, how it publishes, and where it stops.

Short answer

For the same job at a different price, look at Coassemble (flat plan pricing from $250 a month) or iSpring Cloud AI ($720 per author per year). For more customisation and a bigger template library, Articulate Rise is the usual step up, at $1,449 to $1,749 per seat per year. For multilingual delivery, Gomo. If the course is about a piece of software and the learner needs to practise it, Easygenerator cannot do that; dominKnow | ONE and Recourse can.

What Easygenerator does well, and where it stops

The pitch is "authoring for people who are not instructional designers", and the pricing follows it: Pro is $125 a month or $1,499 a year for one author, 10 courses and 100 learners; Team is $625 a month or $7,495 a year from five authors with unlimited courses and learners; Enterprise is quote-based. Learners are never charged for. EasyAI (a first draft from a document, question generation, and since August 2026 a conversational co-author agent) is included in every plan. There is a 14-day trial with no card, after which the account drops to a Free plan.

Output covers SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004 4th edition, xAPI, LTI 1.2 and PDF. Dynamic SCORM hosts the course on Easygenerator's servers (AWS in Frankfurt) so one small package in the LMS updates when you click "Update course". The help centre is clear about the limits: it is not available for xAPI packages, and adding, deleting or reordering sections or questions makes in-progress learners start over. Co-authoring, comments and external review are Team and Enterprise features; Pro users can see results for 100 learners.

What it does not have: an interactive software simulation (the October 2026 EasyVideo update turns a screen recording into a narrated video, which is a different thing), cmi5 or AICC output, and the kind of layout control that designers expect. The two most common complaint tags on G2, where Easygenerator holds 4.8 out of 5 from about 110 reviews, are "limited customization" and "limited flexibility".

1. Articulate Rise 360

Rise is the closest like-for-like: browser-based, block-based, responsive by default, with 1,000+ templates and real-time co-authoring on the Teams plan. You cannot buy it alone. It ships inside Articulate 360 AI at $1,449 per seat per year (Personal) or $1,749 (Teams), annual only, with Storyline, Review 360 and the Reach LMS (300 active learners a year included). AI drafting is included; avatars and 80+ language translation use credits ($250 per 50,000). In October 2026 Articulate added Connected Packages, its own hosted-SCORM mechanism, which the company says not to use where you need strict audit trails or LMS version history. The trial is 14 days.

Pick it when you want the industry-standard suite, a large template library and Storyline in the same subscription, and annual per-seat pricing is acceptable.

2. Recourse

Recourse starts from a recording of the real system rather than a document. Click through the task with its Chrome extension, which captures the screens, the clicks and the structure, or upload any recording (a Loom, a Zoom share, a recorded UAT session, an old MP4), and it builds a click-by-click simulation with Demo, Practice and Evaluate modes, wrapped in an editable course. Easygenerator offers nothing like it. In Practice a hint appears when the learner stalls; Evaluate is a scored assessment with a pass mark that reports to the LMS. Solo is for courses shared by a Recourse link, with no SCORM export; Pro adds simulations, the Chrome extension, and static SCORM and xAPI; Team is three seats with unlimited simulations, live SCORM (a hosted package that updates in every LMS when you edit). It is free for 30 days with full access and a watermark, and Solo, Pro and Team are priced on request. It does not have Easygenerator's SME-review workflow or external reviewer links, and it is a younger product.

Pick it when the source material is a process rather than a document, or the subject is software people need to practise.

3. Coassemble

Browser-based and priced per plan rather than per author: Build is $250 a month or $2,500 a year, Scale is $500 a month or $5,000 a year, with a free sandbox and no per-seat fees. Dynamic SCORM is the default, so edits update for learners with no re-export, while a static package is an on-request add-on. It supports SCORM 1.2 and 2004 only, no xAPI or cmi5. AI course drafting, image and quiz generation, narration and an in-builder agent are in every plan, metered by usage (for example 600 image events a year on Build).

Pick it when several people need to author and you would rather pay one flat price than per author.

4. iSpring Cloud AI

The browser-based sibling of iSpring Suite, at $720 per author per year on a one-year subscription. It runs on Windows, Mac and tablets, shares by link, and exports SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, xAPI and cmi5. iSpring's pages describe export and upload rather than a hosted package that updates in place, so plan on re-uploading after edits. One click publishes to iSpring Learn, its own LMS. If your team lives in PowerPoint and is on Windows, iSpring Suite ($970, or $1,290 with AI) is the better-known product.

Pick it when you want a lower per-author price and your LMS needs cmi5.

5. Gomo

A cloud authoring tool owned by Learning Technologies Group since 2014. Its SCORM LMS wrapper is a small file that pulls hosted content so republishing shows edits without a new upload, and it publishes SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004 3rd and 4th editions. The standout is languages: 250+ with OpenAI-powered auto-translation and XLIFF round-tripping, against Easygenerator's 75-language EasyTranslate add-on. Pricing is quote-only with a 12-month minimum; a UK public-sector listing shows about £1,070 per user per year. There is a 21-day trial.

Pick it when you publish the same course in many languages.

6. dominKnow | ONE

Browser-based, per-author, quote-only pricing with SaaS or on-premise deployment. It does what Easygenerator does and adds Capture, which records a screenshot per step and produces Show me, Guide me, Try me, Practice and Test me modes, exported as SCORM, xAPI, HTML5, MP4, PDF or GIF. Convey hosts your content and publishes a lightweight SCORM stub into the LMS so republishing updates courses in place. Real-time co-authoring and SME review are standard; the AI translator is a paid add-on.

Pick it when you need both document-based courses and step-by-step software training in one platform.

7. Create by Confirm (formerly Elucidat)

Elucidat was bought by Learning Pool in October 2025 and sells as Create inside Confirm; pricing is quote-only. It is an enterprise authoring tool with AI-assisted authoring and output in 75+ languages. Courses published as "SCORM for LMS" are hosted on the vendor's servers and can be re-released, with a "re-release and retain" option that keeps learner progress, a fairer deal than Easygenerator's forced restart on structural edits. Backup SCORM packages are self-contained and cannot be updated that way.

Pick it when you are a large team with governance requirements and want a hosted-SCORM mechanism that preserves progress.

How to choose

  1. Who authors? If it is SMEs with no design background, Easygenerator, Coassemble and Recourse are built for that. If it is a design team, Rise or dominKnow give more control.
  2. How do you want to pay? Per author (Easygenerator, iSpring, dominKnow), per seat annually (Articulate), per plan (Coassemble), or a free 30-day start with plans on request (Recourse).
  3. What happens after an edit? Every tool here except iSpring has a hosted package. Read the restart rules before you rely on it, and keep a static package for anything that must be frozen for audit.
  4. Does the learner need to do the task? Then you need a simulation, which rules out Easygenerator, Rise, Coassemble, iSpring Cloud, Gomo and Create.

What Recourse does not do

  • No overlay on the live application and no in-app guidance.
  • No branching yet: each simulation follows one right path. Branching is on the roadmap.
  • No LTI, cmi5 or AICC output.
  • No native LMS.
  • No threaded review comments.
  • Desktop applications only through an uploaded video.

If your courses depend on SME review threads, cmi5 or LTI, Easygenerator or another tool on this page is the better fit.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Easygenerator cost?
Pro is $125 a month or $1,499 a year for one author, 10 courses and 100 learners. Team is $625 a month or $7,495 a year starting from five authors, with unlimited courses and learners. Enterprise is custom. Pricing is per author, not per learner, and the 14-day trial needs no card.
Does Easygenerator have a free plan?
Yes. When the 14-day trial ends the account switches to a Free plan. Easygenerator says free users see only the last ten learner results.
What is Easygenerator's Dynamic SCORM and what are its limits?
Dynamic SCORM hosts the course and media on Easygenerator's servers and puts a small package in your LMS, so you upload once and later edits reach learners when you click Update course. It is not available for xAPI packages, and structural edits such as adding, deleting or reordering sections or questions make in-progress learners restart.
Which Easygenerator alternative can build software simulations?
Easygenerator has no interactive simulation mode. dominKnow | ONE's Capture tool and Recourse both turn a screen recording into try-it practice; Articulate's suite does it through Storyline rather than Rise.
